Some key players left for better teams like def Yamane (35/2 last season) moved to Kawasaki Frontale, def Freire (20/2 last season) to Varen Nagasaki, and duo of strikes Yamasaki (34/5 was the best player last year), Noda (25/5 last season) also left. The only quality sign that they made is El Youonussi from Sweden team AIK. Most of other players has been replaced by J2 material.
Urawa Red Diamonds collected only 1 point more than Shonan and managed to survive only in last round. They had a lot of injuries last year and focused in ACL since they lost a lot of games and was impossible to reach the continental competitions through J1. In ACL they gone till semifinal but lost against Champions Al Hilal.
They made only 2 signings this def Deng from Melbourne, also Australian international and st Leonardo who scored 28 goals last season in J2.
This should be a different season for Urawa. A team with big tradition will fight from the beginning for top places.
Against a more weaker Shonan they should start with a win.
